In response to Local Law 196, the New York City Department of Buildings has implemented regulations to enhance construction site safety for both workers and supervisors/managers. Individuals designated as Construction Site Safety Managers, Coordinators, or Superintendents must complete 40 hours of specialized training to obtain their Site Safety Training (SST) card.

OSHA Training NYC DOB Requirement (Local Law 196)

Local Law 196 has established new training requirements for demolition and construction workers in New York City’s five boroughs. By December 1, 2019, workers were required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of training, while supervisors needed 62 hours. Additionally, individuals must obtain the appropriate Site Safety Training (SST) card to verify their training completion.

As of September 1, 2020, workers must complete a total of 40 hours of training, which includes an 8-hour Fall Prevention course and a 2-hour Drug and Alcohol Awareness course.

1. 100% attendance for the SST course class
2. Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form
3. Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)
4. Completion of required pre-and post-quiz assessment
5. As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score of 70 on required end-of-course examination
6. Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)
